Trained as a professional journalist in Chicago at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, I have more than 25 years' experience writing and editing for print and online, as well as teaching journalism at Columbia College Chicago. My past employers and clients include the Chicago Tribune, MSN News, Microsoft, Chicago magazine, the Chicago Sun-Times, Crain's Chicago Business, Baird & Warner Real Estate, plus various small businesses and nonprofit organizations.
Since 2007 I have lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I continue to freelance for the Chicago Tribune and Studio 1847, its branded content department. I work on special sections such as Prime Time (senior living) and many branded content clients, such as Rush University, Jewel, BMW Driving School, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, Cox, Mattress Firm and more. In 2013 and 2016 I wrote two exciting new newspaper travel sections: Holidays in Chicago and Michigan Wine Country. I also do real estate writing for Baird & Warner in Chicago.
When not writing, I volunteer for nonprofit organizations in my community, including theater groups. I currently serve on the board of Therapaws of Michigan, a therapy dog organization.
Since 2017, I have been working on community engagement for Voters Not Politicians, a pro-democracy organization that helped end gerrymandering in Michigan in 2018.
